The relationship between artistic practice and writing in the context of research is a hotly debated topic, and it poses many challenges, both within and outside the framework of artistic study programs. This is often a relationship of friction, opposition or paradox. Writing explicitly accounts for the implicit knowledge and understanding embodied in art products and practices, while at the same time art can escape or go beyond what can be expressed in words and resist conventions of control (scholarly).
