Summary
Eduardo Kac, Brazilian artist and writer, professor at the Arts Institute of Chicago, pioneer in the field of contemporary art and biotechnology, will present his innovative project "DFP Bunny", a work that challenges the boundaries between art, science and ethics. "DFP Bunny" is a transgenic rabbit that has been designed to glow in the dark and which he named Alba, symbolizing the intersection between nature and technology. His creative research establishes a dialogue between living beings and technological new media. Through this work, Kac invites us to reflect on the implications of genetic manipulation and the role of art in the discussion about biotechnology. A lecture that will not only explore the creative process behind DFP Bunny, but will also open a dialogue about the future of biology and its relationship with society. In 2006 he received the New Media Award at the ARCO Fair in Madrid. He is currently exhibiting his projects at the Singapore Biennial, in Slovenia, Denmark, Brazil, Taiwan and France.
At the Conference and Seminar: Life Transformation – Art Mutation Eduardo Kac will talk about his art projects establishing a dialogue between them and contrasting the scope of the results, for example: from the online mythopoetic experiences of Uirapuru to the cultural impact of Biotechnology in Genesis; from the problematic relationship of the definition of “exotic” in Rara Avis to the creation of the evolution of life (GFP Bunny). He will also present his new series Specimen of Secrecy about Marvelous Discoveries which he is currently exhibiting in Singapore.
