Summary
Objectives:
The aim of this symposium is, on the one hand, to address the analysis of the changes that occur in the conception of art and its position within the knowledge society and, on the other hand, to influence the process of transformation of artistic practice with respect to these new conditions of production. It is about creating a space for debate to analyze the complexity of creative processes as acts of reflection, with the intention of identifying collective models or tools that offer ideas and activate thinking within the framework of a research based on the practice and driven, likewise, by the own artistic research methodologies.
Concepts and organization:
Based on artistic projects that include the concept of shared methodologies or tools in their production processes, we want to establish dialogues to transfer knowledge. How does art define and disseminate its own research methods? For this reason we will open the symposium with the presentation of the international online platform JAR (Journal of Artistic Research) defined as an artistic research journal, which weaves its texts from images, audios and videos, with the intention of showing the practice of a mode that expresses its respect towards the artists' ways of doing things.
In current artistic practices the term "artistic research" establishes a shared code that is not limited to a single research model but implies a dynamic space in which different methodologies intervene. This is why the organization of the symposium is articulated in two thematic lines. The first, Metamethods. Art-Science-Technology, hosts artistic projects that relate their practice to science and technology. The second, Shared methodologies in artistic processes, opens a perspective towards projects that are nourished by other disciplines to create their own methods or that include the exhibition as a research process, as well as its aesthetic and political dimension.
The symposium will take place over two days, with conferences by artists and theorists during the morning session, and communications based on the thematic lines proposed during the afternoon session. Contributions will be selected via a scientific committee, through an international open call.
