This project has been carried out with the funding of:
Summary:
The project aims to analyze the prevention of gender violence in secondary schools in order to provide tools for intervention from a holistic perspective (with a broad look at the different dimensions of gender violence) and intersectional (taking into account the interaction of different axes of inequality).
Methodology
Data collection on experiences and constructions of gender-based violence in youth is conducted based on four techniques.
Data collection techniques used
- Analysis of 6,000 questionnaires to secondary school students from 73 public and subsidized schools in Barcelona collected as part of the ‘Traps of Love’ project of Barcelona City Council between 2014 and 2017.
- Realization of Relief Maps, a technique designed for the collection, analysis and visualization of data on intersectionality that includes a process of personal reflection and a pooling to encourage participation and group discussion on experiences of oppression and privilege.
- Discussion groups (mixed and non-mixed) with young people from the participating secondary schools.
- Youtubers Analysis: Analysis of the discourse of youtubers followed by a young audience in order to study how they construct gender-based violence and how they contribute to its reproduction or transformation.
Study:
The collection of data on practices for the prevention of gender violence is carried out using the following techniques:
- Analysis of prevention materials.
- Semi-structured interviews with political and / or technical leaders in prevention.
- Semi-structured interviews with trainers in the prevention of gender violence.
- Critical review and compilation of good practices
Impact
As a result of the project, virtual seminars have been held with the aim of discussing and reflecting together on the prevention of gender-based violence in young people. All sessions can be found posted on the conference website.
A guide on how to work to prevent gender-based violence from an intersectional perspective is currently being developed.
