To celebrare the 70th anniversary of the Ordre des Géomètres Experts (OGE), the professional association of French topographers , signposted the past 10 of June the pace of the Paris Meridian for the Hispanic-French boundary, between Coll de Pal and Costabona, the municipality of Suitcases, over 2300 metres.
The mark consists in a granite milestone that indicates the direction of the Meridian by recent mesures, tens of metres from the oldest marks.
The geodesic and astronomic mesure of the Paris Meridian between Dunkerque and Barcelona at the end of XVIII Century served to estabish the metre as the unit of universal lenght. Also, it was the first great geodesic operation that took place in Spain and it was the origin of future networks that were developed since the XIX century (Urteaga and Capdevila, 2013).
