Exhibition in Prague of four versions of representation of the siege of Malta of 1565

Between the 30 of June andl 31 of August, in the hall of Map Collection of the Science Faculty of Prague, it will exhibit the four versions of the Renaissance map of   Giovanni Francesco Camocio (1501-1575) Disegno del porto di Malta, come al presente si troua assediato da turchi … (access to digital version) that represent the last episodes of the Great Siege of Malta of 1565.

The exhibition has the title “Siege Maps: Keeping Memory Safe” and is a collaboration between the Map Collection and The National museum of Fine Arts of Valletta (Malta) to show the four versions are still in UNESCO Memory of the World Programme international register. 

The defense that, in May of 1565, little more than 500 knights of the Order of the Hospital of Saint John made in the attempt of the invasion of Ottoman Army, is oe of the most important facts of the history of Malta.
