The International Committee for the History of Nautical Science is pleased to announce the 19th edition of the International Reunion for the History of Nautical Science (IRHNS XIX) that will finally be held, after a postponement caused by the COVID-19 crisis, in Seville between March 1 and 5, 2021, coordinated by the Universidad Pablo de Olavide y el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC).
The IRHNS focus on technical aspects of navigation, particularly on the history of navigation technologies and techniques, maritime cartography and shipbuilding between the 15th and 18th centuries. In addition, its field of analysis has been extended to the cultural history of navigation, underwater archaeology and the study of naval organisation, teachings and policies, as well as biographical, artistic or literary aspects related to the world of ships, ocean routes and their protagonists during the Modern Age.
The title for this edition is: Magallanes, Elcano, las circunnavegaciones y grandes exploraciones oceánicas (siglos XV-XX).
Proposals for participation may be written in Spanish, English, French or Portuguese and will be sent as attachments in an email to the following address: irhns.sevilla@gmail.com.
The deadline for receipt of proposals is extended until November 30, 2020. Abstracts will be evaluated by peers and the acceptance notification will be sent before December 15, 2020.
Participation in the congress is free. A selection of the papers, after review and adaptation by the authors, will be published in an academic book, under a double-blind peer review system.
