Joseph Hilferty
PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS Being a linguist, I'm of course interested in language. My main interest is the relationship between syntax and semantics, or rather, the often-subtle influence that semantics exerts on syntax.
I am currently writing my Ph.D. thesis on the notion of grammatical construction, but I'm also very interested in the relationship between language and cognition, as well as the neurobiological foundations of language. One of these days I'll actually get around to putting my Linguistics Page together, which I promise will touch upon such matters. So far, most of my publications have dealt with cognitive linguistics. In fact, I have co-authored an introductory textbook called Introducción a la lingüística cognitiva .
I am currently a regular member of the Asociación Española de Lingüística Cognitiva (I used to be the treasurer) and have been a member of the International Cognitive Linguistics Association since 1990.
