This research was created with the intention of rescuing the history of the cooperative of Mataró Glassworks. On the basis of existing studies, focusing on the economic aspects of the cooperative or in its relationship with the rest of the cooperative movement, we want to give to know, specifically, their pedagogical work, as well as their contributions in the field of culture. The present study aims to enrich a part of the social history mataronina; offer a framework that serves to further analytical research on the cooperativist movement in Catalan, as well as contribute to the knowledge of the socio-cultural contributions in the field of the cooperativist first third of the 20th century.
This cooperative of glass production was born in Mataró, thanks to the impulse of José Ros Serra, of Pau Pi and staircases and workers of the company Joan S’estanyol and Cia, which the band formed, all its capital stock and will transform the company, born in 1920, in a cooperative, in 1925, who worked in a camouflaged until the arrival of the law on the Bases of cooperation (1934). The company reached wide echo in the society mataronina since she was born until today, being one of the most solvent of Mataró and becoming the producer of the Republic during the 85% of electric bulbs of the Spanish State. His Magnum Opus, the central object of this work, was set in motion a rationalist school which keep alive the revolutionary spirit that shared most of its drivers. The thesis is exposed in the course of the research that Crystals of Mataró developed their cultural work and education with the aim of influencing the formation of revolutionary ideals of social emancipation, in the working class mataronina, beyond to extend the cooperativist. In this sense, cannot be underestimated the influence of Joan Peiró from your responsibility as Director of manufacturing. In some way the cooperative and their performances become a practical translation of the social project of Joan Peiró, their way of life and understand values such as trade unions, school and culture.
In this work is carried out a succinct to the pedagogical and cultural work of the cooperativist movement prior to the appearance of Mataró Glassworks (with special attention to the quality of the Mataronesa Workers Education precedent more serious started by a cooperative in the city). One describes the birth of this movement as well as its slow path to consolidation, in the 1920s, and made mention of his relationship with the labor movement, which is one of the distinguishing features between Crystals and the rest of the cooperative movement. Then it presents the history of Mataró Glassworks with the purpose of getting to know the historical challenges that he faced as a company and the shaping of the character itself, that kept aloof from the rest of Catalan co-operatives grouped in the surroundings of the National Federation of Cooperatives. One continues with a presentation of the figure of Joan Peiró and the keys to his thinking that more influence, socio-cultural level, in the performance of the cooperative. The Rationalist school, as a central axis of this study, will run through the rest of the exhibition. Give to know their major players (teachers, students, etc.) and their historical, to end with an analysis of their morals and their teachings.
