The comprehensive analysis of the anarcho-syndicalist newspaper La Huelga General (Barcelona, 1901-1903) it is the basis for studying the union resurgence of the early twentieth century and to deepen the ideology, nature and organization of the anarchist and anarcho-syndicalist movements during those years.
Funded by Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia and other national and international collaborators like Anselmo Lorenzo, Teresa Claramunt, Paul Delesalle o Jean Grave, the newspaper was the organ of expression of an important anarcho-syndicalist group in Barcelona. From its study, it is clear not only its importance as a communicative vehicle between Catalan and European workers but also its important role in spreading the new revolutionary syndicalism that was developing in France at the beginning of the 20th century.
Based on the research proposal “Press and union organization in the anarchist movement” the newspaper has been analyzed La Huelga General (1901-1903) that, in addition to being the spokesman for an anarcho-syndicalist group, he repeatedly propagated trade unionism, thus being a particularly useful publication to understand the later forms of organization of the anarcho-syndicalist movement.
