Recognized as a consolidated research group by the Generalitat de Catalunya
By early 1997, the European Union had begun to define diversity and the construction of cultural identities, immigration and multiculturalism as a priority area for study. Taking into account these research guidelines as well as the lack of studies on this topic from a gender perspective, Dr. Mary Josephine Nash set up the Multiculturalism and Gender Research Group, within the scope of the Department of Contemporary History of Barcelona University. In 1998 it was recognized as a Consolidated Research Group by the Generalitat de Catalunya (CIRIT).
With the intention of studying cultural diversity from a transversal perspective of gender and from an interdisciplinary perspective, the Group has since developed a set of activities around the issue that underpins its scientific agenda: gender and multiculturalism.
The Group is made up of specialists in different disciplines: History, Geography, Anthropology, Sociology and Communication Sciences, and always develops its projects and activities from this interdisciplinary approach.
