This research work aims to present and analyze the correspondence between Luigi Sturzo, founding priest of the Italian Popolare Party, and Jaume Ruiz Manent, to learn about Sturzo’s relations with Catalan Christian democracy during the years immediately before the Spanish Civil War. The presence of extensive unpublished documentation allows us to give a new panorama of Sturzo’s vision of the Spanish political-social problem in the years immediately before the Civil War and to show the dynamics of the international relations of the Christian Democrats in this period.

The present work, through the analysis of part of the correspondence that Luigi Sturzo maintained with Jaume Ruiz Manent between 1929 and 1937, wants to contribute, even partially, to improve the information on such a critical, tumultuous and delicate stage of Spanish history, with special attention to Catalonia.
