Dr. Agustí Pedro i Pons as a socio-cultural icon

Author: DURÁN ALCARAZ, Victoriano

Director: Dr. Carles Santacana i Torres, catedràtic

Barcelona University, 2016

There is no doubt that one of the most advanced fields in recent years is that of cultural history, which is becoming an element of nuance and complement to political history. In parallel with these research interests, a methodological balance has been found between the treatment of the impact of cultural, ideological and political proposals on the masses, and the role of individuals, so that all this has reverted to a new look at the dimension of biographical works. The thesis presented by Dr. Victoriano Durán starts from these budgets, as he intends to advance in the study of the cultural dimension in the Franco regime from the study of the complicities and cultural networks in which the outstanding Barcelona doctor participated. Certainly, the figure of Dr. Agustí Pedro i Pons is well known in the world of medicine, as it marked a decisive mark both for his research and for his work as a teacher and doctor. However, if we limit their role in this strict sense we forget part of their activity. And we know that in many cases professionals (doctors, lawyers, architects, …) have been a sector of enormous dynamism beyond their strict work environment, and that individually or through their professional schools developed a important cultural task that transcended his daily work.
