Author: PASCUAL TORRES, Aleix

Barcelona University, 2007-2008

This work is the synthesis of the history of a peripheral workers' district of the city of Barcelona, the Bon Pastor, a neighborhood that is undergoing urban transformation, causing the disappearance of its idiosyncrasy, that is, a transformation of the way to live and to behave on the part of the people who live in the neighborhood, especially in the most important area, the Casas Barates. It is to keep track of how it was and how the neighborhood is still before it ceases to be a neighborhood that is different from the city of Barcelona and it becomes a neighborhood of many of those that has this great Mediterranean city, which is ending with the particular character of the different neighborhoods that make it up.
In order to explain the history of the neighborhood, which has given this particular character, it is necessary to consider the work following the city's urban growth, that is, following the evolution of architecture, urban planning, growth of city and on the other hand to see the origin of the people who make up the neighborhood or rather the different sectors of the current neighborhood, which were inhabited by people of different origins, which made them different neighborhoods in the same place . It is also necessary to see how the different periods of our history have been experienced to discover that as the marginal zone it always suffered the toughest complications of the period; without ever having much help from any public or private entity.
The methodology used to carry out the work was to look up the primary and secondary sources that spoke of any aspect of the Good Shepherd. The first was to read everything published about the neighborhood, finding very few publications, most of them made by the City Council of Barcelona; as well as the work on the neighborhoods of Barcelona of Huertas Claveria and some studies of urbanism and the memoirs of Monsignor Cortinas; These have helped us to know where to start looking for primary sources; Starting the research in the different archives, which include: the Municipal Archive of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, the Historical Archive of Santa Coloma de Gramenet - Torre Balldovina, the Administrative Archive of Barcelona, the Diocesan Archive of Barcelona and the Archive of the Board of Trustees among others.
