Xavier Filella analyzes in his work the evolution of Catalan political and philosophical thought between 1971 and 1986, pointing out the ideological changes implied by the Transition in Catalan society and politics. In the same way, the persistence and ideological changes that took place in Catalonia during the 70s and 80s are pointed out.

The objective of this work has been the will of following the evolution of Catalan political and philosophical thought between 1971 and 1986. In these fifteen years, Catalan society was profoundly transformed. Thanks to the establishment of democracy in Spain, Catalonia enjoyed again a democratic regime that, in addition, was accompanied by the restoration of political autonomy. However, despite the economic crisis of the seventies, Catalonia was approaching European standards, a fact that the entry of Spain into the EEC in 1986 would only confirm. This transformation was especially intense in the period between the approval of the Law of Political Reform in 1976 and the approval of the Constitution in 1978, which, strictly speaking, should be considered as the period of political transition..

The study of the evolution of thought requires, however, a broader periodization, given the intrinsic slowness of cultural changes. It is the reason for covering in this work an ample period that begins with the creation of the Assembly of Catalonia in 1971 and ends with the entry into the EEC. The method of work has consisted in the revision of the published works and the prizes awarded in the course of these years -included in an appendix-, followed by a selection of the works that allow to delimit the most significant ideas of the period. The work includes, in addition to the introduction and the conclusions, two sections in which the ideologies of the seventies and the appearance of the new movements are addressed and, subsequently, the scope of the Catalan essay, from the works published at the beginning of the period , but that already reflect the new patterns of the postindustrial society, even those that denote the influence of postmodernity.
