On November 20th, 2024 the Governing Board of the University of Barcelona announced that it would stop publishing on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

In the statement published by the UB, they explain what motivated this decision: “For the UB, distancing itself from a space where hate speech and misinformation are promoted is an act of responsibility. It is also an act of responsibility to seek alternatives to behaviour that discriminates against minorities, polarizes debates, intoxicates, feeds anti-democratic discourse and seeks to radicalize public opinion.”

Currently, all official UB profiles on X have become inactive, posting to them has stopped, as well as any kind of interaction. Alternatively, UB has opened a profile on Bluesky(bsky.app), whose user is @ub.edu.

Following this institutional decision, the DHIGECS-COM research group has also stopped publishing and inactivated its X account (@DhigecsCom), opening an alternative account on Bluesky: @dhigecs-com.bsky.social.
