On July 21, 2023, the researcher from the CUVICOM project María Alejandra Campos Salvá defended her doctoral thesis 'Effective Science Communication to Broad Audiences: A Duty, a Challenge, or an Opportunity?' at the Department of Communication from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. The thesis was supervised by Lluís Codina and Rafael Pedraza-Jiménez, also researchers of CUVICOM.
Alejandra Campos' research explores the concept of effective science communication to reach broad audiences in the context of publicly funded research, specifically by the EU. A multiple case study is used to see how EU-funded projects are being communicated.
All this has allowed Dr. Campos to develop a conceptual tool that can help research teams, not necessarily experts in communication, to design, plan, manage, and evaluate a dynamic-strategic science communication plan.
The thesis received a grade of outstanding with a mention of Cum Laude.
