Ten Spanish universities and research centers participate in the international UniStem Day on stem cells aimed at high school and ESO students (basic research)
On Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22, 2024, the 16th edition of UniStem Day returns with the topoc “the never-ending journey of stem cell research.” At the national level, this day is part of the Spanish network of Advanced Therapies (TERAV) and the coordination at the national level is carried out by the University of Barcelona, Creatio, Production and Validation Center of Advanced Therapies of the University of Barcelona and TERAV network.
In this edition, ten universities and research centers distributed throughout the territory participate in the event. Specifically, the University of Barcelona, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Blood and Tissue Bank, the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), the Complutense University of Madrid together with the Autonomous University of Madrid, the University of Santiago de Compostela, the University of Murcia, the University of Valencia and the GENyO (Pfizer-University of Granada-Andalusian Govermment Centre for Genomics and Oncological Research).
The event takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During the morning, national teleconference connections are made between the various institutions, informative talks, as well as debates and workshops related to stem cell research and regenerative medicine. For this edition, more than 1,500 students gathered across the different Spanish locations.
This year, the guest speakers participating in the Conference organized at the University of Barcelona are:
🔹 Marta Cervera Sospedra (Predoctoral Researcher at Creatio, a center for the production and validation of advanced therapies at the University of Barcelona) will talk to us about Neuroscience, its power to cure diseases.
🔹 Miquel Bosch Padrós (Predoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia) will talk to us about: Understanding what we cannot see: modeling the embryo with stem cells.
🔹 Patricia López Gómez (Predoctoral Researcher at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia) will surprise us with the talk: Navigating the world of tissue engineering and biomaterials: An informative perspective.
🔹 Dr. Georgina Vidal (founding partner and technical director of the company D’Enginy Biorem) will share her experience as an engineer in the world of cells: I am an engineer and I work in the world of cells.
UniStem Day, was born in 2009 in Milan from an idea by the Italian university professor and senator for life Elena Cattaneo, the event once again confirms its international dimension with simultaneous participation in 97 universities and research centers in Spain, Australia, Denmark , France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
The day is organized internationally thanks to the Interdepartmental Center for Stem Cell Research at the University of Milan (UNISTEM). At the national level and TERAV research groups is funded by TERAV network through the “Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) – Project: RD21/0017/0001. Spanish Network of Advanced Therapies TERAV. – “Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU. “Transformation and Resilience Recovery Plan” and the Spanish Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (SEGyC). Additionally, UniStem Day at the University of Barcelona also receives funding from the company Biorem and the Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona.
