As you can see, on 2012 I have not been very active in the blog. This is mainly because I’ve been quite busy with my move to the University of Barcelona. On 2011, I was awarded a Ramón y Cajal position, which is more or less the Spanish version of a tenure track, in which you are intended to lead your own research, with the posssibility of stabilization after 5 years in case you pass the corresponding evaluations. Thus, in January 2012 I moved to the UB with this new position, in particular at the Department of Physical Chemistry of the Faculty of Pharmacy. Here I have joined the larger Computational Biology & Drug Design Group, with a large expertise in the simulation of biosystems. In this context, I’m now building my research group, and despite the economic crisis in Spain and the important cuts in research budgets available, for the moment things are going well and I’ve already been funded a project as Principal Investigator addressing photosynthetic light-harvesting processes. Also, I have just incorporated my first Ph.D. student, Marina Corbella, and soon another student from Brazil, Silvana de Souza Pinheiro, will join us. If you are also interested in joining the group, just send me an e-mail and we will look at possible options!
