The project places care at the center of society, recognizing our vulnerability and interdependence as human beings and emphasizing our needs for care and attention. From there, the research aims to provide knowledge about the form and intensity with which the coronavirus and the measures related to confinement and the state of alarm (suppression of the activity of educational and child care centers, the closing of día and other care services for dependent persons) have affected the amount of unpaid care work that falls on women and men. Likewise, it will delve deeper into the possible variations depending on the context and for reasons of ethnic origin, racial issues, financial situation, age and type of home (single-parent or two-parent families), as well as the impact this has on health, the economic security and people’s well-being.
Specifically, the contribution of the project will seek to influence and allow the obtaining of knowledge about the social impacts of the COVID-19 for the monitoring and support of certain vulnerable groups (elderly persons, persons with a situation of dependency, and / or situations of special needs; homes with resources, of various kinds, insufficient); as well as evidence society’s response from civic and community support networks.
Finally, among the key elements of the research project, it is worth noting that it is necessary to address the norms, values and social imaginaries of women and men, which reproduce and legitimize the role of women in care work; the possible strategies followed to respond to the social needs of care; and its consideration between the professional, the domestic, the affective and the emotional.
