On April 21 took place a staging of a fiction that summarizes so many daily stories of dreams, hopes, life, dignity and livelihood. It is in this space in which different life stories of migrant women who have arrived in the Balearic Islands are intertwined that the theatrical piece “23 Kg. Stories of women who sustain life” at the Ateneo La Fonera de Palma, written and directed by the company Hermanas Picohueso in the framework of the project “Communities that care”, managed by Andiara, a collective of the island of Mallorca that works for social transformation from a feminist, intercultural and artistic perspective, promoting spaces for collective participation.
It is an interactive stage proposal with the public and of small format that allows us to question and that each of us question ourselves, from our privilege, our vision of the life of these people, very often women. Their experiences are illustrated with dialogues about their daily lives, their longings, the journey, the arrival, the despair, the illusions and the work of caring for the elderly or dependent people, as possible remuneration in a life lived in an irregular situation due to the requirements of the Immigration Law imposed by the Spanish state and the migration policies of the EU.
This proposal gives us the opportunity to get in contact with them and to know how they take care of others, how they enjoy doing it, but also how they resist and take care of themselves and theirs. For those who are on the island of Mallorca, do not hesitate to see the micro-theater piece accompanied by a discussion with the creators, you still have time to see it at Casal Can Gelabert in Binissalem on May 9 at 19h or May 29 at the Espacio Can Bum in Pollença at 19h. And if you are not there, there will be more molidas for sure!
