Intersectionality and denormalization of the gaze in the transformation and social action from critical transfeminism

On February 15 and 16 the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), through the University and Business Foundation (FUEIB), hosted a seminar aimed especially at activists and professionals in the social sector, although the general public was invited to participate.

The seminar was a space to rethink, from a transfeminist perspective, the professional and/or activist look, to put in common and within reach a wider repertoire of theoretical and conceptual tools and methodological and political strategies for the eradication of social violence, and especially sexist, patriarchal and LGTBIfòbiques. The daily reproduction of normality implies social violence in which we all often occupy certain places, and this has social, community, political, material and affective effects on the path towards transformation and social justice. For this reason, the central theme of the seminar was intersectionality, a political tool that helps to understand the overlapping of those of inequality and oppression that place people in certain plans of vulnerability. It is a very important tool to think, together, the dimension of the cure in our society.

The ones in charge of the seminar are Tono Queer Lab, a project promoted by the feminist organization of Menorca, Filosa. The collective recovers tools and methodologies of feminist, queer and trans* theory, enabling collective reflection, situated knowledge and community networks. Seminars like these help to nurture the tools to think and reflect critically on social reproduction.
