In the framework of the COMMUNITY project of the University of Barcelona, the seminar “Social inclusion of refugees through physical activity and sport” will be held on 13 December, which aims to address the challenges, both current and future, regarding the social inclusion of refugees and socio-educational intervention based on physical activity and sport.
The event will be attended by teaching and research staff, professionals in the refugee field, and professionals and students of education, pedagogy, social work, psychology, physical education and sport.
The seminar programme will include the presentation of the main results of the COMMUNITY project and different interventions on the issues raised. The functioning of the Socio-Sport Meetings organised within the framework of the project, as well as a set of tools will be presented so that professionals and organisations can design, implement and evaluate this type of socio-educational intervention based on physical activity.
At the event, there will be a discussion with refugees, students and volunteers who have participated in these Socio-Sports Meetings; and there will be a round table with different social entities that work on social inclusion through physical activity with the aim of sharing experiences, good practices and potential applications of the sociosport methodology.
The seminar will be held in person but can also be followed online. It will be held on Wednesday 13 December from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Aula Ramón y Cajal of the Historic Building of the University of Barcelona (Gran Vía de les Corts Catalanes 585, Barcelona).

About COMMUNITY
The COMMUNITY project is an initiative that has addressed, in recent years, the obstacles to the social inclusion of people in situations of refuge and asylum through physical activity and collaborative sport. It has been funded by the European Union and led by the University of Barcelona in collaboration with the Fundació Solidaritat UB.
Challenges such as racism, discrimination, segregation and xenophobia have been addressed through a series of social and sporting encounters, from which issues such as empowerment, coexistence and interculturality have been addressed.
