Statement regarding Doctoral Theses presented at UB

Doctoral candidates who wish to carry out and present their Doctoral Thesis at any of the Centers of the UB, in the event that their Thesis project includes any of the following procedures:

  1. Experimentation with humans and/or use of biological samples of human origin.
  2. Interviews or questionnaires with subjects participating in the research project.
  3. Use of animals for experimentation.

They must submit their Doctoral Thesis project to the consideration of the Bioethics Committee of the UB (CBUB) in order for this Committee to make the appropriate assessment of its adherence to the research integrity policy and relevant methodological, ethical, and legal aspects. The CBUB will issue the corresponding favorable report, when applicable.

For this reason, doctoral candidates planning to carry out any of the aforementioned procedures should complete, depending on the type of research project, the following documentation:

  1. Experimentation with humans and/or use of biological samples of human origin
Declaration of the existence of experimentation with human subjects and/or use of biological samples of human origin
    Through Form 1

  2. Interviews or questionnaires with subjects participating in the research project
Declaration of recognition of ethical implications in interactions with human subjects and social interventions in research projects or doctoral theses
    Through Form 2

  3. Use of animals for experimentation

In this case, it is necessary to submit the research project to the Animal Experimentation Committee of the UB.

The doctoral candidate and the thesis supervisor will sign the documentation, which will be submitted along with the Thesis project to the CBUB (cbub@ub.edu).
