Preliminaries (Oct. 1-3)

The program participants are expected to arrive on Oct. 1. There will be a welcome coffee/reception in the afternoon.

Oct. 2-3 will be dedicated to some Recollections on polyhedral geometry and (oriented) matroids by Kolja Knauer (Universitat de Barcelona) and Vincent Pilaud (Universitat de Barcelona). These preliminary lectures will cover basic knowledge to prepare for the research school.

Research school (Oct. 6-10 and Oct. 13-17)

The research school will consist of 4 advanced courses.

The program participants will be proposed a collection of research problems (from the local organizers and the lecturers of the research school). We expect the participants to organize small working groups on these projects. The projects will be monitored by the local organizers, with regular progress reports.

We expect the participants to present some progress on their various projects at the end of the program, during the week of the closing conference.

Related events

Note that there is also a conference Beyond permutahedra and associahedra at CIRM (Luminy, France) on Dec. 1-5, 2025.

Location

All research activities will be held at the CRM Barcelona (map) on the campus of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (map).

All accommodations booked by the program will be either at the Vila Universitaria (map) or at the Hotel Campus (map) at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.

To get to the UAB campus from Barcelona, take the S2 train of FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya) from Plaça Catalunya to Universitat Autonoma. This train takes about 45 minutes, runs from 5:45 to 23:50 (even 2:12 on Friday-Saturday-Sunday), and passes approximately every 10 minutes during the day, 20-30 minutes in the evening and weekends.

Here is a map of the UAB campus.

Accommodation and catering

For participants to the full program, there might be the possibility to book a shared apartment for 2 people (shared room, bathroom and small kitchen, see this description) at the Vila Universitaria on the UAB campus. The price for a shared accommodation is 1096€ per person for the two months. This will be covered for a few selected participants. You can apply for this accommodation and/or support below.

For shorter stays, the participants are invited to plan their stay by themselves, and can consider the following options:

There are a lot of cafeterias and restaurants on the UAB campus. During the research school and the conference, all participants will get a lunch coupon to one of the cafetarias (not yet determined).

Here is a map of the UAB campus.

Registration fees

Due to the high number of applicants for the program and our limited budget, we require registration fees for participation in the research school (€140 per week or €280 for two weeks) and the conference (€140). The registration fees for one week cover all coffee breaks, 5 lunch tickets, and the social dinner. Invited speakers and certain supported participants are exempt from these fees. All other participants must pay the applicable fees upon registration.

Financial support

We will offer financial support for the accommodation of a few participants to the 2 months of the program (shared accommodation at the Vila Universitaria on campus, see above). Unfortunately, we cannot support travel to Barcelona, local expenses (besides accommodation), nor accommodation for shorter stays.

Application for participation, accommodation, and/or support

There are various ways to participate to the program. You can either participate to a specific event (research school on Oct. 6-17 or conference on Nov. 24-28), or participate to the full program (Oct.-Nov.). In either case, you will have to apply and register via the procedure described below.
