The latest Executive MBA Business Chat organised by the Universitat de Barcelona Business School addressed the issue of innovation in the traditional economic sectors with Aristarco Tomás, director of the freight haulier Tomás Expediciones, S.A. The session was held on April 25th 2018 at the Faculty of Economics and Business.
During the session, the executive discussed with Executive MBA students how to break away from the mould of family businesses and adapt to a changing environment in a traditional sector. Other topics discussed during the Business Chat included technology and sustainability as key factors for the future of the transport sector, resource optimisation and coordination, and the challenges of the Scandinavian and Russian market, where Tomás Expediciones has been a pioneer for the Spanish freight industry.
Tomás Expediciones is a third generation family business with more than 75 years of experience in the freight sector. The business has introduced substantial management innovations in order to adapt to logistic and technological changes, also bearing in mind topics such as quality and environment.
This Business Chat is the first in a series which will bring top CEOs and managers into the Executive MBA classroom in 2018. In previous academic years, we have had the opportunity to welcome Fluidra’s international general director, Pere Ballart; Grupo Fesal Invers partner and CEO, José Enrique Alarcón; Universitas founding partners, Carlos Garza and Manuel Flores; and Fundación CARES CEO, Helena Borbón Porta, among others.
