OBJECTIVE

Our research project ‛Social aspects in medieval Arabic astrological sources: their legacy and discontinuity in the Greek tradition’ is based on the study of relevant sources and unpublished manuscripts, among them the Kitāb al-Bāri‘ (Volume One and Volume Two), a key reference for astrology in the Mediterranean area and Medieval Europe. The project aims to shed light on the following issues: the social model and the conception of life in medieval times; astrology/prognostication, and what it can tell us about the meaning of religion in society; the purpose of the astrologer; the reception of astrology in various social groups (followers, religious men, philosophers, and so on), and the shared elements (and the possible relation) with the Greek tradition.
