Ximo Martorell

Ximo Martorell (PhD University of Alicante) works as a commercial archaeologist and is a honorary research associate at the Prehistory Section of the University of Alicante. He has worked for the Valencian government (Generalitat Valenciana) at the Territorial Service for Culture and Sports of Alicante. During his doctoral years, he worked as an archaeologist in the Arq&Volta and Alebus companies, and as an intern at the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ).
His research has centred on the post-Paleolithic Rock Art of the Mediterranean Basin on the Iberian Peninsula, inscribed as World Heritage in 1998, with a focus on the province of Valencia. His doctoral thesis dealt with the Abrigo de Voro and he has profusely published on other sites in the area.
His researched has also included issues related to cultural heritage management and museums, and has led several projects of conservation, research and management of rock art sites. In the last few years he played a major role in other projects such as the revision of the Inventory of Rock Art Sites of the Valencian Autonomous Community and also in the Management Plan of Rock Art sites in the same area..
