Stages of the Eagle life

There are three different periods in the life of Bonelli´s Eagles.

-          A short initial stage of about 5 months living in the nest and in the territory of the parents.

-          A second stage of dispersion, in which the young individuals  leave their original territories and lead an erratic life in search of good hunting areas located outside the reproductive population cores called dispersal areas. There they spend the first two or three years of life.

-          A final stage in which they become adults and take possession of their own territory, they pair and fulfil their basic life functions, including reproduction.

We don’t know for sure how long a Bonelli´s Eagle can live, although it is known that some individuals are over 20 years. This fact led to think that eagles could live some decades if they were not  affected by one of the main mortality causes on account of men (power lines or  direct persecution).
