The Filosofia i Gènere—ADHUC Seminar holds the 29th Thesis Laboratory. In this new session, PhD candidate Tatiana Afanador López will present her research on her dissertation project, The Cyborg Metaphor: artificial organs and intersections, under the supervision of Carmen Revilla and Georgina Rabassó (both Seminari Filosofia i Gènere—ADHUC, Universitat de Barcelona). In this investigation, Afanador aims to show that the cyborgs are not only technological beings: their artificial organs are designed as metaphors/intersections, that is, as collision points of the trajectories on which organs and machines circulate, the disciplines that allow the existence of this circulation and the bodies and minds that experiment these biotechnological blends. In her dissertation, Afanador analyzes four types of metaphors/intersections: that of the hybrid, those related to the “sense of oneself”, the metaphors of “the cyborg becoming” and the ones of the computer. Finally, she proposes the creation of a cyborg organ prototype.

The session will be held virtually and with a limited number of participants. In order to participate, it is required to sign up by sending an email to adhuc@ub.edu. Inscription will be granted on a first-come first-served basis until May 14th.
