La comunitat gitana en moviment: lesbianes i gays transformen l’entorn
The Roma community, the largest ethnic minority in the EU and the one suffering greatest exclusion and inequality, lives in constant transformation, providing key images of authority and empowerment far from misogynistic, homophobic and patriarchal stereotypes. Images that help to redefine and to renegotiate new identity figures both inside and outside the community not only for women but also for those subjects and bodies not associated with heteronormative sexualities. The symposium “La comunidad gitana en movimiento: lesbianas y gays transforman entornos” will allow us to hear the voices of those who are part of the community, in an open space for dialogue and communication. The participants will be María del Carmen Fernández and Ana María Hernández (Gitanas Feministas por la Diversidad, Madrid), Demetrio Gómez (founder and honorary member of FERYP -Forum of European Roma Young People-; coordinator of the European project ROMED for El Cabanyal, Valencia / author of “Baxtaló’s Blog”, dedicated to multiculturalism and to the fight against Romaphobia and anti-Gypsyism), María Carrasco (activist form Barcelona) and Iñaki Vázquez (LGTBIQ gypsy activist, member of H2O -Camp de Tarragona-, editor of the magazine “Colors”). Rodrigo Andrés, Pablo Cáceres and Marta Segarra, members of the proyect “Nuevas visiones de la comunidad / Nuevas identidades gitanas, híbridas y sexualizadas”, will also participate in the round table. Free attendance.
