Objectives and competences
Objectives
(i) providing the student a comprehensive and quality training in the field of photonics, considering both the fundamentals as applied, and
(ii) developing in the student competencies to successfully incorporate both research centers and / or development in the industrial fabric of photonics.
Once the Master is finished, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of an integrated theoretical foundations advanced photonics, especially in the fields of engineering, photonics, nanophotonics and biophotonics. Being
original in their approaches, developments and applications in the field of research. Observing photonics with an open mind as a science and technology marked interdisciplinary character, in connection with various scientific disciplines such as physics (which starts), chemistry, biology, materials science or renewable energy as well as with modern industrial technology or
communications.
2. Interpret the main phenomena associated with the optics / photonics and apply the acquired knowledge and problem-solving ability in the field of photonics, both in its theoretical aspects as in the experimental and technological.
3. Apply the scientific method, integrate knowledge and make judgments in relation to research in photonics, data from experimental, observational or theoretical incomplete and sometimes
seemingly contradictory, also taking into account the ethical and social responsibility.
4. Communicate results and conclusions, and the knowledge and motives behind them, or specialized audiences clearly and unambiguously. Communication in English, the language of great use in the field of photonics.
5. Able to demonstrate learning skills that allow you to continue your training in the field of photonics individually and independently.
At the same time, an additional objective of the Master, who is happy with the necessary mobility of students, at least two universities in different European country, is to promote knowledge by the student on the social, cultural and scientific European technology.
The objectives of the title are consistent with fundamental rights and gender equality, the principles of equal opportunity and universal access for disabled people and the values of a culture of peace and democratic values, in accordance with Article 3 of RD 1393/2007.

B) Specific competences of the specialized nature undertaken during the third and fourth semester of the Masters (in Barcelona,Marseilleo Karlsruhe):
These skills will be worked with each student, depending on thespecific chosen electives route (31 specific specialized skills)
Access and admission
Applicant profile and access requirements
Recommended applicant profile
Access requirements and conditions
General requirementsStudents wishing to be admitted to a university master's degree must hold one of the following qualifications:
- Official Spanish university degree.
- A degree issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area framework that authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue.
- A qualification issued by an institution outside the framework of the European Higher Education Area. In this case, applicants must request homologation of the degree to its equivalent official Spanish university qualification or obtain express approval from the University of Barcelona, which will conduct a study of equivalence to ensure that the degree is of a comparable level to an official Spanish university qualification and that it grants access to university master's degree study in the country of issue. Admission shall not, in any case, imply that prior qualifications have been recognized as equivalent to a Spanish master's degree and does not confer recognition for any purposes other than that of admission to the master's degree course.
