SAVCA Laboratory
The Services for the Analysis of Viruses in the Food Chain and Water Cycle (SAVCA) is a laboratory born in 2019 as part of the Enteric Virus Laboratory, located in the Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus.
The SAVCA’s main mission is to detect the major viruses related to Food Safety, such as hepatitis A virus and noroviruses while offering both a quality service and our expertise in foodborne and waterborne viruses.
The main services offered by SAVCA include:
• Analysis of detection and quantification of viruses in samples of interest in the food chain, such as, among others, bivalve molluscs, red fruits and other fruits, vegetables or seaweed that are eaten raw, or other foods with suspicion of viral contamination on its surface.
• Analysis of detection and quantification of viruses in environmental samples such drinking water, regenerated water and others.
• Validation studies of viral inactivation processes, and antiviral activity of products and processes of application to the food chain.
• Specific advice and training in the field of virological safety in the food chain.
