URU (Urban and Regional Research Centre Utrecht) is the research institute of the Department of Human Geography & Planning, which is part of the Faculty of Geosciences at Utrecht University. Currently, URU employs about 70 researchers, including PhD students. URU aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of urban and regional change on the one hand, and of the spatiotemporal behaviour of individuals, households and firms in various geographical contexts on the other. URU comprises of 6 research programmes: Urban Geography, Economic Geography, Development Studies, Cartography, Regional and Cultural Geography, and Environmental Governance for Urban and Regional Planning.

One of the main research groups of URU, i.e. Economic Geography, will participate in the SEARCH project.
