CRENoS (Centro Ricerche Economiche Nord-Sud) is one of the leading economic institutions in Italy with a staff of 50 researchers; it was founded in 1993 and since 2003 is a section of CIREM an inter-universities research department between the University of Cagliari and Sassari.
CRENoS has a specific research expertise in the areas of Innovation, Intangible Knowledge, Human Capital and Regional Economic Growth. CRENoS participates in several international research projects supported by the European Union and other institutions in collaborations with several Neighbour Countries. Among them, EuropAid (Ciudad Call – 2 projects: WATERMED, with Morocco, Tunisia; ARCHERITAGE, with Romania, Tunisia, Russian Federation), VII Framework Programme (Intangible Asset and Regional Economic Growth), VI Framework Programme (Competition, Contents and Broadband for the Internet in Europe), United Nations Environment Programme – Priority Action Programme/ Regional Activity Centre (DESTINATIONS – with Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia – winner of Energy Globe Award 2007 in Algeria), EU Cost Action A17 (Small and Medium Enterprises, Economic Development and Regional Convergence in Europe), EU FSE Art.6 (Employment Development Adaptability), EU Interreg IIIB-Medocc (Regions on Line), OECD (Report on Geography on innovation in OECD regions), International Cooperation – Regional funds (Tourism, quality and participation, the quality of the sector tourism industry of the island of Jerba-Tunisia; Women and the karité chain: growth of added-value for local development of Benin).
At the moment, CRENoS participate in several project partnerships submitted to ENPI CBMED Authority and in other EuropeAid partnerships for international cooperation in Latin America.
CRENoS promotes several events and dissemination activities (international conferences, workshops, seminaries) on agglomeration and spillover effects, innovation creation and diffusion, new economic geography, human capital, public institution and policy.
