The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) is Israel’s oldest and leading universities with over 22,000 students, 1,200 tenured faculty and researchers at the forefront of international science. The University is home to 100 subject-related and interdisciplinary research centers. About 3,800 research projects are in progress at the University, and 1,500 new projects are started each year. Nearly 40% of all civilian scientific research in Israel is conducted at HUJI. The Institute of Urban and Regional Studies of HUJI offers a MA level specialization program in urban and regional studies. It is one of the two major graduate programs for urban and regional planning and analysis in Israel and is intensively engaged in urban, regional and environmental research and applied planning projects.

Relevant Experience
The Institute of Urban and Regional Studies (IURS) has much experience in partnering in EU RTD project having co-ordinated the  EU 5th Framework project on: Spatial Deconcentration and Quality of Life in European Metropolitan Areas (SELMA).Currently the IURS is a partner in the FP7 project SECOA (solutions for environmental contrasts in coastal areas). In addition IURS faculty have been involved in many European bi-national projects with partners from Germany (The GIF Fund) and Holland (the NIRP Fund).IURS faculty have been involved in the preparation of some of Israel’s major planning initiatives  such as The Tel Aviv metropolitan and District Plan and Israel’s National Outline Plan #35. The IURS has modelling expertise in the areas of urban land use simulation with a fully operational UrbanSim model application running for the central regions of Israel, multi-criteria analysis with urban planning and environmental applications, wide-ranging experience with multi-regional input-output modelling, the integration of GIS and spatial econometrics and impact and cost benefit analyses for urban, regional and environmental projects.
