The geotechnical and geothermal laboratory is located at the ICM-CSIC. The laboratory consists of a fully automated 50 kN GDS load frame that is used to determine triaxial shear strength as well as to perform controlled strain rate consolidation experiments that allow a maximum confining pressure of 22 MPa. A Rowe & Barden consolidation cell enables the determination of compressibility/permeability characteristics of fine-grained sediments at confining pressures up to 2 MPa.
The laboratory is also equipped with a Teka Berlin TK04 thermal conductivity meter and 6 Antares miniaturized temperature data loggers for geothermal studies in fine-grained sediments.
