Mar. 18 2016: UBZurich Chair celebrated the "Actuarial Day 2016", an event where the students of the Master in Actuarial Science from UB had the opportunity to attend the closing session of the third edition of "The Challenge program” with participants from the Master program. The event was opened by Mr. Carlos Esteban (Director of Human Resources and Corporate Social Responsibility Zurich) and Ms. Mercedes Ayuso (Chairman of the UBZurich Chair).

During the ceremony students of the master presented the results obtained in the development of the Business Case "Planning for the retirement". Then, Ms. Fina Alargé (Chief Life Actuary-Zurich Global Life Spain) taught a Master Class entitled “The Actuarial task in the new framework of Solvency II” [in Spanish]. She emphasised how the new Directive supposes a change in the administration of an insurance corporation.

Mr. Javier Valle (CEO of Global Life Spain & CEO Banc Sabadell JV’s) closed the event referring the opportunities that the MSc students have in the new insurance context.

Feb. 09 2016: On Tuesday, February 9th, the Kick-off of the 3rd edition of the Challenge Project (year 2016) took place in classroom 102 of the Faculty of Economics and Business (University of Barcelona). The experts from Human Resources and Life Staff of Zurich Spain are in charge of this new activity.
14 students of the Master in Actuarial and Finance Science (UB) participate in this training action. The program develops along February and March, 2016.

September 23, 2015: UB and Zurich Insurance gave the diplomas to the students of the first year of the Insurance Leaders of the Future programme (ILF). The CEO of the Zurich Group in Spain, Mr. Julián López Zaballos gave the diplomas at a ceremony held in the Aula Magna of the UB Historic Building. The act was also managed by Ms. Mercedes Ayuso, chairman of the UB-Zurich Chair and full member of the Riskcenter research group, and Mr. Enrique Cladera, technical director of the Zurich Group in Spain and chairman of the ILF programme.

The ILF programme has lasted for two years and supported by 85 collaborators. The course has had nine modules with face-to-face material, lectures and works. The ILF second edition begins next December.

Jul. 16. 2015: A Workshop on Economic Assessment on Bodily Injuries in Motor Claims was held at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona (Barcelona Insurance and Risk Management Summer School 2015). More than 40 participants attended the session where experts in the field gave interesting lectures about the next law reform in Spain.

Among the speakers, Mr. Carmelo Almajaro (chief of general insurance claims at Zurich) gave a talk entitled “The incorporation of the new scale in the operation of Insurance companies”. He put emphasis in the impact that the next law will trigger and gave a possible operational framework. Other speakers were Dr. Miquel Martín (full professor of Civil Law at University of Girona, and president of the committee of experts for the BI scale reform), Mrs. Mónica Martorell (Legal advisor at Liberty Seguros amb member of the UNESPA working group) and Dr. Miguel Santonilo (full member of Riskcenter-UB).

Then, Ms. María Jesús Romero (Chief of Control and Risk Management. Local Risk Officer) taught a Master Class entitled “Risk Management: a comprehensive approach”. She emphasized the importance of risk management inside Insurance Company.

The CEO of the Zurich Group in Spain, Mr. Julián López Zaballos closed the event referring to the opportunities being provided by the Chair to promote the improvement of technical expertise and the dissemination of knowledge.

Apr. 10. 2015: The second Edition of the Actuarial Day will be take place at 15.30h in the Aula Magna of the Building 690 of the UB (Faculty of Economics and Business). Five groups of students of the Ms degree in Actuarial Sciences and Finance, will defend a business case entitled “Home Insurance Profitability Analysis”. As well, people related with Zurich will be involved in the act. See the program in English or in Spanish

Mar 17. 2015: Mr. J. Gorina (Zurich Spain Human Resource Department) conducted the second and last part of the workshop on skills for speaking in public, aimed at the students of the second year of the Master in Actuarial and Finance Science. The two parts of the course (Feb. 17 and Mar. 17) were held in classroom 103 from 19:00 to 21:00 at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona.

Feb. 17 2015: Mr. J. Gorina (Zurich Spain Human Resource Department) conducted a workshop about main skills related to speaking in public. The first part of the course was held in classroom 103 (Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Barcelona), from 19:00 to 21:00.
On 17^th March, the second part of the course will be held in classroom 103 from 19:00 to 21:00. This course is aimed at the students of the second year of the Master in Actuarial and Finance Science.

People from Human Resources and Pricing Staffs of Zurich Spain are in charge of this new activity.
20 students of the Master in Actuarial and Finance Science (UB) participate in this training action. The program develops along February and March, 2015.

Oct 20. 2014: The Annual Conference of the Chair UBZurich was a celebration of 130 years of Zurich Spain. Attendees enjoyed a lecture by Prof. Jerònia Pons at the Paranymph of the University of Barcelona last Thursday.

The lecture went over the history of the Zurich Insurance Group in Spain, which was established in 1884 in Barcelona. Professor Jerònia Pons made an excellent work of documentation and the audience not only could see the path of the insurance companies around Zurich in Spain but the changes in the Spanish economy, as well as the regulation of the insurance and the labour market. Oct. 16 2014: The UBZurich Chair organizes the 1^st annual conference by professor Jerònia Pons (Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences at the University of Seville) with a lecture on "Zurich, 130 years in the Spanish Insurance Industry [Zurich, 130 años en el Seguro Español]" at 18:30h in the Paranymph of the University of Barcelona (Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 585) .
