What is MinResET?
EARTH SCIENTISTS
FOR THE ENERGY TRANSITION
MinResET (Mineral Resources for the Energy Transition) is a multi-disciplinary research group based in the Universitat de Barcelona, in collaboration with researchers from the Natural Science Museum of Barcelona. Our focus is on the exploration and modelling of the mineral resources that will be playing an essential role in the upcoming years as sources of critical metals for the energy transition (e.g., Sc-REE, PGE, Co, In, Ga, Ge, V, Li, Ni, Ti, Cr, Al-bauxite).
Our group, formerly known as MinResour (Mineral Resources: Ore Deposits, Applications and Sustainability), has more than 15 years of proven expertise in mineralogy, ore deposits geology and geochemistry, supported by more than 20 competitive projects and the publication of over 300 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. We also have sound experience in mineral separation techniques, with the development of our own hydroseparation laboratory.
Besides, MinResET is actively contributing to other topics, such as the origin and evolution of ophiolites, intra-oceanic arcs and related ore deposits; and the petrogenesis of carbonatites and kimberlites, as well as several projects resulting in key regional geological and metallogenic studies in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Spain. Additionally, we have a solid research line devoted to the improvement of microanalytical techniques in Earth Sciences.
MinResET collaborates with geological surveys, exploration and mining companies (mineral resources), and with other public institutions and researchers from other disciplines (e.g., archaeology, meteorites).
