PREREGISTRATION AND PROVISIONAL ADMISSION
The Master in Pure and Applied Logic is designed specifically for graduates in mathematics, computer science and philosophy. Graduates in related fields, such as physics or linguistics, may also be considered for admission.
PREREGISTRATION IS CLOSED |
In order to preregister and ask for provisional admission, the candidates should write to the Master's coordinator Prof. Ramon Jansana (preferably by e-mail: jansanaub.edu), including the following information:
- An academic curriculum vitae.
- The list of passed courses, with specification of the school and the grade obtained.
- A short statement about the reasons for wanting to enter this Master, about whether they want to specialise somehow, and any other information they may think may be relevant.
- Optionally, they can include the names, affiliation and e-mail address of two scholars who know the candidate and can give references.
Should it be necessary to attach documents to the e-mail message, PDF is the format of choice.
The Master's Admissions Committee will communicate its decision to all preregistered students in a short time. The Committe can call any candidate for a personal interview.
The provisional admission ensures the candidate meets the academic demands, and is not related to the administrative requirements, which should be fulfilled by the candidates at the moment of official registration. Below you can read about the legal requirements for admission, the conditions for admitting candidates with a foreign degree, etc.
At the request of the admitted candidates, the Committee will send them a formal admission letter in order to facilitate the applications for grants, scholarships or other financial aids necessary to guarantee their stay in Barcelona to follow the Master's courses.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES
Requirements for admission
The legal requirements are defined in the Royal Decree 1393/2007, October 29. The ordinary requirement is to be in possession of an official university certificate from a Spanish university or a certificate issued by an institution in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) which entitles the applicant to admission in an official master's degree program in the corresponding country.
As an additional requirement, students wishing to be admitted to the Master must demonstrate that they have a working knowledge of English that enables them to read the assigned texts. As a guide, consider level B1 in the list of third languages' knowledge skills established in the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Admission of students with a non-EHEA issued degree certificate
Such students can enter the Master in two different ways:
- By having their original degree recognized by the Spanish government and given full academic validity. This process, known as homologación, is handled by the Spanish Consejo de Coordinación Universitaria, and is traditionally lengthy and difficult.
- With the non European Higher Education Area degree certificate validated or officially recognized by the UB as equivalent to a Spanish qualification. Moreover, in the country of expedition of the degree certificate this degree must allow to register in an official master's program.
The applicant's admission in an official master’s degree program in the UB does not entitle him or her to the recognition or validation of a previous degree certificate.
Papers to be submitted by student applying without prior validation:
In all cases, the Coordination Committee will be the authority completing the procedure.
Note that in both cases the awarding of the Master degree will have full validity.
Registration
Registration will be handled by the academic
secretary of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Barcelona, either personally or through online resources.
The period for completing formal application and registration will be in 2008. The calendar will be announced a soon as possible.
