ADMISSION PROCEDURES

Requirements for admission

The Master in Pure and Applied Logic is designed specifically for graduates in mathematics, computer science and philosophy. Graduates in related fields, such as physics or linguistics, may also be considered for admission.

The legal requirement for students from Spanish universities is to be in possession of a full university degree (licenciatura, or the soon to be introduced grado - see Article 3 of RD 56/2005). In certain instances, but in all circumstances with the express permission of the Rector of the UB, students who have completed 180 credits of an undergraduate program may also be admitted.

As an additional requirement, students wishing to be admitted to the Master must demonstrate that they have a working knowledge of English, equivalent to level B1 in the list of third languages' knowledge skills established in the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Admission of students with a degree awarded abroad

Students holding a degree awarded by a university outside Spain can be admitted to the Master, provided that this degree allows them to commence postgraduate studies in the corresponding country. Access is possible in two different ways:

  • By having their original degree recognized by the Spanish government and given full academic validity. This process, known as homologación, is handled by the Spanish Consejo de Coordinación Universitaria, and can be lengthy and difficult.

  • By providing evidence that the knowledge they have in the relevant subjects is equivalent to that required by a Spanish undergraduate degree. However, note that by not going through the process of homologación the original degree will not be recognized by the Spanish authorities.
Note that in both cases the awarding of the Master degree (and should the student eventually so choose, that of a PhD) will have full validity.

The steps students will have to take in order to proceed with their application will be announced shortly. Click here to see the regulations and procedures that have been in force to date.

Registration

Registration will be handled by the academic secretary of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Barcelona, either personally or through online resources.

Pre-registration and admission

Preregistration is already open, and should be completed not later than 8 september. The Admissions Committe will communicate its decision to all preregistered students a few days after this date. The Committe can call any candidate for a personal interview.

Here you will find the instructions and forms to proceed to preregistration.

The dates for completing formal application and registration will be announced a soon as possible.

For more information you can read the University of Barcelona's official web pages on the new Masters.
