Researcher Specialist Technician – RESMED+

The candidate will join the team of Dr. Bernat Hereu, from the University of Barcelona and the Medrecover research group (www.medrecover.org), to carry out tasks in the project "Harmonised management of transboundary marine biodiversity (RESMED+)".

RESMED+ project is a continuation of RESMED (www.resmed.cat), coordinated by the University of Barcelona and the University of Perpignan, focused on the Mediterranean coast of Catalonia and France. This project involves French and Spanish fisheries and territorial administrations responsible for coastal management, as well as the marine protected areas in the cross-border region (Montgí-Medes NP, Cap de Creus NP, Banyuls MR and Gulf of Lyon NP), and includes the various stakeholders in the area (fishermen, diving, leasure…).

The project aims to enhance the management and conservation of fishery resources by exploring new tools for an integrated management of the territory. This will involve coordination between different managers and the stakeholders in the area.

The study will investigate the ecology and movement of various species of coastal and demersal fish, including rays and sharks, their habitat use throughout their life cycle, and the marine connectivity on a transboundary scale. We will use acoustic telemetry tracking techniques, within the Catalan Tracking Network (www.marcatgemari.cat).

The contract will involve all the different phases of the project:

- Participation in the coordination tasks with the managers and actors of the territory (fishermen, divers, etc.) through citizen science actions.

- Participation in fish and shark tagging campaigns using acoustic telemetry.

- Participation in the maintenance campaigns of the Catalan Tracking Network 's fixed network of receivers.

- Management of data obtained by acoustic telemetry, and coordination with the database of the European Tracking Network.

- Participation in data analysis and writing of report and scientific articles.

There is the possibility of doing a PhD within the PhD program in Ecology at the University of Barcelona, using the data from the project and also from the previous RESMED project.
