Pint of Science Festival: Are genetically-prepared animals for climate change?

Research staff

The Pint of Science Festival that fills the bars of Barcelona with science.
Dates May 20-22, 2019

Cristian Cañestro (IRBio-Universitat de Barcelona) participates this year with the talk:

Are genetically-prepared animals for climate change?
Climate change threatens ocean life and fishing production. Our team is studying a tiny animal of the oceanic plankton that, although it resembles the eagle of the eighth passenger movie, is evolutionarily very close to humans and plays a vital role in marine ecosystems and the carbon cycle . The goal is to identify which genes allow marine life to defend themselves against environmental threats, such as the increase of toxins derived from algae outcrops for ocean warming, and thus help to foresee how Climate change will affect the health of the oceans.
Venue: Vilana Urània events
Carrer Saragossa, 29, Barcelona, 08006
