CONECT-e (Sharing traditional ecological knowledge) is an interactive platform for the collection and transmission of traditional knowledge relating to plants, animals, fungi, traditional varieties of crops and ecosystems. This platform aims to be a place not only consultation, but also a place to meet and exchange. The platform to connect and presents a wiki format, in order that anyone can register and share knowledge through the web and traditional practices that have acquired their elders talking with them and seeing how they applied day to day. The traditional ecological knowledge (CET) includes knowledge, beliefs, traditions and practices relating to the relationship between living beings (including humans) and their environment, which have been developed by a community over time from the experience, and are adapted to the local culture and environment. This knowledge is passed from one generation to another and dynamic, because eventually changing and adapting to new circumstances. In Spain, an example of this interest is the Spanish Inventory of Traditional Conocimientos relativos on Biodiversity (IECTB), which aims to collect, organize and disseminate traditional ecological knowledge have been documented in various studies and bring this knowledge to Ethnobiological managers, researchers and the general public.
The goal is to connect and increase awareness of traditional knowledge on biodiversity, ie, which falls within the scope of Ethnobiology (ethnobotany, etnomicologia, Etnozoología, etc) and ethno-ecology. The platform, which is open to the participation of society, is an initiative of citizen science.
The initiative, involving experts from the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Research Institute of Biodiversity (IRBio), the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Institute of Science and Technology (ICTA), the Botanical Institute Barcelona (IBB), the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), among other institutions.
