In memoriam Juan Antonio Seoane Camba

Juan Antonio Seoane Camba (Leiro, Abegondo, A Coruña, January 8, 1933 - Barcelona, ​​September 21, 2017) graduated (1958) and a doctorate (1964) in biology at the University of Barcelona. From his doctoral thesis, directed by Dr. Francisco García del Cid, specialized in marine algology, whose subject was one of the pioneers in Iberian and southern European lands. He worked in centers of the Higher Council for Scientific Research in Vigo and Cádiz and enjoyed an ASTEF grant from France for stays with Professor Feldmann in Paris, Roscoff and Banyuls. He was an associate professor of cryptogamy at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, a member of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and, since the end of 1971, professor of botany at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Barcelona, ​​of which he was a vice president, on several occasions, department director. When he retired, in 2003, he was appointed emeritus professor, a position he held until the end of 2006, and then continued working as a retired professor. He directed numerous doctoral theses, many in algology in Barcelona and in other places in Spain, and also in other areas. He was the founder of a powerful marine physics school in Barcelona and the first president of the Spanish Sociology of Physics (1988-1994), as well as the initiator of an important line in Palinology (systematics, ultrastructure, allergology, melissopalinology), and also made possible the beginning of biosystem research in cormophytes, which became a relevant line of the Botany Laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Barcelona, ​​which he organized and which, as It's now, it represents your school in several fields. He was the author of more than 120 scientific publications, a significant percentage of which in indexed magazines.
