Changes in water temperature have an impact on the dentex in Medes Islands

The movement of the dentex, a fish living in rocky sea floors and marine lands in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, is influenced by the changes in ocean temperatures, according to a study carried out in the Medes Islands, and published in the journal Scientific Reports. Regarding the climate change, which brings higher temperatures, this behavioral pattern of the dentex –an apical predator in marine areas- could have an impact on the dynamics of the species and the coastal ecosystems.

The new study is signed by experts from the Faculty of Biology and the Biodiversity Research Institute (IRBio); the Blanes Centre for Advanced Studies (CEAB-CSIC), the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC), the Ecological and Forestry Applications Research Centre (CREAF), the Balearics Oceanographic Centre (COB-IEO) and the Moss Landing Marine Labs (United States), among other institutions.
