9th IRBio DAY: ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION

Research staff
March 27, 2024
Aula Magna, Faculty of Biology, UB
9am to 2pm

After several attempts, the summer of 2023 marked a turning point with the entry into force of the European Nature Restoration Act. For the first time, this regulation obliges the member states of the European Union to recover degraded natural spaces, both terrestrial and marine. The objectives are ambitious: to restore at least 20% of degraded areas by 2030 and to achieve the repair of all necessary ecosystems before 2050.

The recovery of degraded, damaged or destroyed ecosystems, returning more biodiversity to agricultural and forest lands to the marine environment and urban spaces. Healthy ecosystems are not only more resistant to the effects of climate change, but also strengthen adaptation, improve connectivity with other ecosystems and favor the populations of the species that inhabit them.

In this conference, we want to publicize the work on restoration projects carried out by research groups linked to IRBio. As well as invite representatives of the public administration to tell us about their experiences.
