2nd IPBES Seminar: '' Prosperity without Nature? ''
PROGRAM:
Debate on the implications of the IPBES report in Catalonia and the impact of biodiversity loss on the economy
The Intergovernmental Scientific and Political Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), an independent body promoted in 2012 by various UN agencies and composed of more than 130 governments, published the first report in May the state of global conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services in which it warns that one million species, of the eight million estimated to be on the planet, are at risk of extinction as a direct consequence of the human activity and many will be extinguished in the coming decades if no transformative changes favorable to the conservation of nature are adopted.
The loss of global biodiversity jeopardizes the fulfillment of much of the Sustainable Development Goals, including those related to the eradication of poverty or hunger.
Stretching the thread of the IPBES report, in May a first day on biodiversity loss in Catalonia was organized; this second day will focus on the implications of the IPBES report in Catalonia and the impact of biodiversity loss on the economy.
