Abstract

The concepts of health, disease, and dysfunction are fundamental to numerous debates in the philosophy of medicine as well as bioethics. In this presentation, we will present and systematize findings from recent experimental philosophy studies (Machery 2023; Varga, Latham, & Machery, ms.; Varga and Latham 2024a, 2024b) that investigate how these concepts are understood and applied. In the concluding section, we will examine the implications of our findings for ongoing philosophical debates and their significance for health communication.
