Abstract

Philosophical reflection on the structure of perceptual experience has
typically adopted a modality-specific perspective as its point of
departure, according to which we can give an account of each sensory
modality in isolation from the others. In this talk I argue that the
phenomenon of multisensory integration indicates that this
modality-specific approach is fundamentally flawed, and must be
replaced by an account which does recognizes to its multisensory
nature.
